The network's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
Last October, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the channel introduced a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. During a period often characterized by dark humor, this show's earnestness struck a chord and propelled it a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."
Network Praise
The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about watching this endearing family go about their daily lives.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its current sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well help usher in that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to bask in the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
