New York Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the player will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during a recent discussion.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His family, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he has been listed as serious yet stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” he added. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, he seemed very positive. Once more, that reassures me, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD shared surveillance images earlier this week of a man sought in the incident involving Boyd. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and police mentioned it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims according to reports.

The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday in the area between MSG and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts “constantly” since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse just had a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,” Glenn remarked. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but I am pleased that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd hasn’t played during the current season, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with a shoulder issue that needed an operation.

He signed with New York as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was anticipated to become an important component of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a practice session on early August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has remained around the team all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “I mean, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. Given his status as a special teams standout, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement for $1.6 million with New York in March.
