Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
