News has broken that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.
An Important Return to Panem
The duo will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively. Industry whispers indicate their cameos will take the form of a brief glimpse ahead, as the original saga concluded with their characters settled into family life.
This marks the sixth film in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It serves as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed the majority of the previous films in the series.
The Plot and New Cast
The film's events are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.
The cast also includes several accomplished actors in important characters:
- Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes will appear as a younger version of the calculating President Snow.
