At least 36,000 Sudanese have evacuated since takeover of El Fasher to RSF, states UN agency
Over 36,000 individuals have escaped Sudan's Kordofan territory eastern part of Darfur beginning Saturday, as stated by the UN's migration organization.
The strategic central area connecting the country's Darfur provinces and the capital region has during recent weeks become the latest battleground in the extended civil war between the Sudanese military forces and the militia group.
Massive Displacement Statistics
An estimated 36,825 people fled five localities in North Kordofan province between 26 October and 31 October, according to the International Organization for Migration.
The individuals, most on foot, moved toward Tawila, a town west of El Fasher that is currently accommodating in excess of 652,000 evacuated individuals.
Increased Military Presence
Local inhabitants of North Kordofan on Monday described a substantial rise in both RSF and army concentration across towns and villages throughout the state.
Both military groups are contesting control of El Obeid, the North Kordofan regional capital and a critical supply and command base that joins Darfur to Khartoum.
"Today, all our forces have converged on the Bara front here," commented an RSF member in a recently shared video statement.
Regional Inhabitants Report Safety Fears
A area citizen of Um Smeima, located west of El Obeid, described that the quantity of RSF vehicles had increased considerably since the group's seizure of El Fasher.
"We discontinued traveling to our farms, afraid of clashes," the local commented.
Another inhabitant, who asked to remain unnamed for security reasons, also reported that "there has been a big increase in army vehicles and weapons west and south of El Obeid" over the last fourteen days.
International Alarms and Calls
A senior UN official sounded warnings last week about "extensive crimes" and "ethnic-based retaliations" by RSF in Bara.
The official cautioned about patterns comparable to patterns in Darfur, where RSF fighters have been alleged to commit mass killings, sexual violence and abductions against certain racial groups.
The spiritual head on Sunday urged an quick cessation of hostilities and the creation of aid passageways in Sudan, saying that attacks on civilians and impediments to humanitarian aid "are producing unacceptable suffering."
Sudan's official envoy to Egypt on Sunday charged RSF of committing war crimes in El Fasher and announced that the Sudanese government would not engage with the militia organization.
The ambassador further called on the international community to categorize the group as a terrorist entity.
