Alarming Statistics of People Now Vape, Warns Global Health Body
In excess of 100 million people, featuring at bare minimum 15 million minors, currently employ e-cigarettes, driving a fresh surge of nicotine addiction, according to current global medical data.
Minors are, usually, nine times more inclined than adults to engage in vaping, according to existing worldwide data.
Vaping devices are fueling a "fresh wave" of nicotine addiction, stated a leading health expert. "These devices are advertised as harm reduction but, in reality, are addicting youth on nicotine at younger ages and threaten compromising decades of progress."
Adolescents Being 'Targeted'
"Countless of people are quitting, or not taking up tobacco use thanks to tobacco restriction initiatives by states across the globe," he commented.
"In response to this significant advancement, the tobacco industry is pushing back with novel nicotine devices, forcefully focusing on youth. Governments must take action more rapidly and stronger in applying tested tobacco-control measures," the official added.
The e-cigarette figures are a projection since some states - 109 in total, and many in African and South-East Asia - fail to collect information.
According to the analysis, as of recent February this year, at minimum 86 million e-cigarette users were grown-ups, primarily in high-income countries.
And at minimum 15 million youth between the ages of 13 and 15 presently vape, according to surveys from 123 states.
Although many countries have attempted to establish e-cigarette regulations to tackle youth vaping in recent years, by the close of 2024, 62 nations even now had no policy in place, and 74 nations had no minimum age at which e-cigarettes are allowed to be acquired, states the public health body.
Meanwhile, tobacco consumption has been declining - from an estimated 1.38 billion users in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024.
Frequency of tobacco use among women decreased the most - from 11% in 2010 to 6.6% in 2024.
With males, the reduction was from 41.4% in 2010 to 32.5% in 2024.
But a fifth of adults worldwide yet consumes tobacco.
Cigarette consumption is connected to several illnesses, such as cancer.
Experts claim vaping is considerably less dangerous than cigarettes, and can help you cease smoking. It is discouraged for those who don't smoke.
Electronic cigarettes eliminate burning tobacco and do not create tar or toxic gas, a couple of the most harmful elements in tobacco vapors. They contain nicotine, which may be habit-forming.
